Dr. Smitha Joel
Dr. Smitha Joel is the Senior Quality and Risk Manager at the Women's Wellness and Research Center, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar. Since 2012, she has been dedicated to advancing maternal health, patient safety, and quality improvement. Dr. Joel played a key role as an active member of the Person-Centered Care (PCC) Driver 3 standards implementation and the PCC Steering Committee, where she was instrumental in achieving Planetree Gold Certification for WWRC—the first in Qatar under the new global PCC standards. Her work has focused on embedding a culture of safety, inclusivity, and patient- and family-centered care within the organization. Dr. Joel has also represented WWRC at numerous national and international conferences, sharing insights on risk management, patient safety, and innovative care practices. With her leadership and commitment, she continues to shape quality healthcare delivery and strengthen the culture of excellence at WWRC and across the wider HMC system
