Professor Ruben Peralta is the Deputy Trauma Medical Director, Senior Consultant, and the Director of the HMC Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship Program. He is graduated from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU) in Santo Domingo, DR, with Honors. He trained at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of several prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.

Dr. Peralta has extensive experience in the areas of trauma and complex surgery, emergency, disaster medicine, hemostasis, and coagulation. Dr. Peralta's specialties include management of highly complex critically ill and injured patients, minimally invasive surgery, general and emergency surgery, disaster medicine, critical care medicine, equal access to healthcare and quality, injury prevention, and minority recruitment into the health professions, cross-cultural medicine and medical education.

Dr. Peralta has authored or coauthored over 330 publications, abstracts, and book chapters. As an Academic Surgeon, Dr. Peralta has been awarded more than US$ 2 Million in competitive research grants in Qatar alone. As an educator, he has led the Trauma, Emergency and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than 52 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency, and critical care medicine in the Middle East. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, of the American College of Surgeons for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognized leadership in the innovation and advancement of the Surgical Science and Education. He was awarded the prestigious 2021 International Harald Tscherne Teaching Award during the 2021 European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery annual conference. He is a professor of surgery, anesthesia, emergency medicine, critical care medicine & global health.

Late in 2021, Dr. Peralta, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievements Award by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Qatar. In 2021 he was awarded the tittle of Don Ruben, by the Permanent Commission of Patria Ephemerides of the Dominican Republic, for his outstanding professional career and humanitarian works with the Dominican Diaspora and the citizen of the Dominican Republic. In 2022, the Annual Congress of the Dominican College of Surgeons (CDC) was dedicated to Dr. Peralta and surgeons from the diaspora. In 2022, Dr. Peralta was recognized as an Honorary Fellow of the Dominican College of Surgeons, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. In 2022 Dr. Peralta was the winner of the Mr. Oscar de la Renta Dominican Emigrant National Award of the Dominican Republic for his lifetime altruism and humanistic work in benefits of the citizen of the Dominican Republic.

In 2022, Dr. Peralta was awarded the Best Teacher Award, at the prestigious event of Excellence in Medical Education Awards ceremony, sponsored by the Department of Medical Education of the Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar.
