Dr Rami Alfarra is a principal scientist at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU). He has over two decades of international experience in atmospheric aerosols and their impact on air quality, climate and human health. Dr Alfarra joined QEERI in March 2021, where he leads research on air quality with a range of interests including air quality assessment, source attribution and human health impacts of air pollution and natural dust in addition to the development of evidence-based mitigation policies. To date, Rami participated in 38 major national and international research collaborations and has 76 publications with more than 18000 citations and a current H-index of 46. Dr Alfarra received the 2008 Swiss Academy of Sciences Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Award.
Dr Alfarra completed a PhD degree in atmospheric science at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in the UK in 2004. He worked as a post-doctoral scientist at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland from 2005 to 2008. From 2009 to 2021, he served as a scientist at UK’s National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and fellow at the University of Manchester, UK.
