
Prof. Giridhara R Babu
MBBS, MPH, Ph.D.
Dr. Giridhara Rathnaiah Babu is a Professor of Population Medicine, has a medical degree (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College Manipal, and has completed MPH and Ph.D. from UCLA (University of California Los Angeles). He has two decades of experience in health research, practice, and academics.
He began his public health career with the World Health Organization over six years, where he led the efforts to stop polio transmission. Giridhara is the PI and has set up a pregnancy cohort. He has won several competitive research grants, including the Wellcome Trust fellowship.
Giridhara has over 140 papers published in national and international high-impact journals. He has served on several national and international committees. His research and teaching interests include global health, life-course epidemiology, and primary prevention of noncommunicable diseases. He has supervised 9 PhD and over 40 master's level students. He serves as a reviewer and editor in top international journals.
He is a member of the Faculty of Public health of the UK and a chartered member of the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE).
