Manal Musallam Othman
Director of Diabetes Education in Hamad Medical Corporation. BSN, CDE, Mph, PhD, Medical Science-Clinical Epidemiology
Dr. Manal is an Adjunct Prof. Health Science University of Doha for Science & Technology UDST. She is also a Clinical Asst. Professor of Public Health/Heath Science at the Qatar University. Dr. Manal is a member of the Scientific Committee of Qatar Diabetes Association and a member of Qatar University Diabetes Research Group.
She is a Co- Chair for National Patient Empowerment pillar part of National Diabetes Strategy and for the National Awareness pillar part of National Diabetes Strategy. She is also a member of MCC (multiple chronic conditions) taskforce committee and Chair for Qatar Metabolic Institute Education Committee.
Dr. Manal developed the first Accredited Diabetes Education Advance Diploma in collaboration with CNAQ in Qatar. She also led the development of Master program in Diabetes Care & Applied Science in collaboration with CNAQ-Qatar (University of Doha for Science &Technology). Further to this, she led the development of online diabetes education courses in collaboration with Iheed group & Hamad Medical Training Center.
Among the other notable accomplishments she had, she had adopted the DESMOND program which is the first international group base diabetes patient education for people with type 2 diabetes in Qatar. She also developed the patient education organizational structure UNDER allied health job family including job descriptions, performance appraisals and competencies; and developed clinical training program for public health graduates on diabetes management in collaboration with QU.
Dr. Manal is the main organizer for the National Diabetes Awareness Campaigns. She published the first diabetes book in Arabic for the patient and many educational materials includes videos, pamphlet, Diabetes CD for deaf patients and diabetes pamphlets on Braille language. She is also a speaker in national TV channels for diabetes and public health topics and international lecturer for diabetes patient education. She published many papers about diabetes and diabetes self-management in international Journal.
Dr. Manal envisions to shift diabetes and other chronic diseases management from purely medical management to self-management practice by empowering people with diabetes to be partner in their medical management in Middle East and North Africa region.
