Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali is a Senior Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Qatar University, and Site Director for the Surgical Clerkship at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar. He brings over two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in surgery and medical education.
A graduate with honors from Sindh Medical College, Pakistan, Dr. Ali completed his General Surgery residency at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and earned his FCPS in General Surgery. He later trained in Colorectal Surgery at HMC and received a fellowship from the European Board of Surgery. He holds multiple FRCS fellowships (Edinburgh, England, Glasgow) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was awarded an honorary PhD in Medical Education by the International Business School, Norway.
Dr. Ali’s clinical interests include colorectal cancer, complex fistula-in-ano, hernia, and biliary surgery. He has authored nearly 70 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for several international surgical journals. He is widely recognized for his excellence in teaching and academic leadership, including previous service as Head of Emergency and Acute Care Surgery at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital and Site Director for HMC’s ACGME-I General Surgery Residency Program.
