Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Alkofahi MD
Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Alkofahi is a distinguished hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and general surgeon who has served as the
Head of the General Surgery Specialty at the Jordanian Ministry of Health since 2019. With over two decades of surgical and academic experience, he has played a central role in shaping surgical practice and advancing standards of care across Jordan’s public healthcare system.
Dr. Alkofahi earned his
Jordanian Board in General Surgery and his
High Specialty in General Surgery from the University of Jordan in 2000. He subsequently pursued advanced international training, completing
two Master’s degrees at the renowned Henry Bismuth Institute in France (2008, 2009), one of the world’s leading centers for HPB surgery. He further honed his expertise through a
clinical fellowship at Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital in Milan, Italy, a premier European institution in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery.
In addition to his governmental and clinical roles, Dr. Alkofahi is actively engaged in professional societies and medical governance. He serves as a member of the
Jordanian Medical Association Council, and is an active member of the
Jordanian Society of Surgeons, the
Jordanian Society of Obesity Surgery, and the
Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation (MESOT), among other regional and international associations. Through these roles, he has contributed to policy-making, surgical education, and collaborative regional initiatives in organ transplantation and advanced surgical care.
Currently, Dr. Alkofahi practices at
Al-Bashir Hospital in Amman, the largest government hospital in Jordan and a key national referral center, where he provides specialized care in HPB surgery and complex general surgical cases. His leadership at both institutional and national levels reflects his commitment to advancing surgical services, fostering innovation in hepatobiliary surgery, and mentoring the next generation of Jordanian surgeons.
