Dr. Ahmed Z. Al-Bahrani is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon at Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, where he leads the Upper GI Surgery Unit and chairs the Upper GI Multidisciplinary Team. A highly accomplished surgeon with a clinical focus on oesophago-gastric cancer surgery, Dr. Al-Bahrani brings extensive experience from both the UK and the Middle East.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Baghdad, earned his Iraqi Board in General Surgery, and later pursued specialist training in Upper GI Surgery in the UK. His subspecialty training focused on oesophago-gastric cancer resection, and he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Manchester for his research thesis.

Before joining HMC, Dr. Al-Bahrani served as Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust and held multiple leadership roles including Upper GI Lead Clinician, Clinical Director for General Surgery, and Honorary Consultant at Hammersmith Hospital, London.

A dedicated educator and examiner, he has served on the Qatari Board of Medical Specialties, the ARCP panel for Cambridge trainees, and continues to supervise postgraduate training. His academic contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and more than 40 scientific presentations.

Beyond his surgical practice, Dr. Al-Bahrani enjoys tennis, padel, travel, and spending time with friends and family.​​
