Dr. Mohamed A. Yassin is a distinguished hematologist and senior consultant, currently serving as the Hematology Fellowship Program Director and Professor of Hematology at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) College of Medicine at Qatar University.
Dr. Yassin graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Khartoum and is certified in Internal Medicine by the Arab Board of Medical Specialization. He completed his hematology fellowship at HMC and earned a master’s degree in Hematology from University College London, UK. Additionally, he holds a European master’s degree in transfusion and advanced cell therapy from the University of Barcelona, Spain, and has undergone specialized training in bone marrow transplant at the Gustave Roussy Institute in France, as well as molecular biology and clinical trials at Saint Louis Hospital, France.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Yassin is also a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the European Hematology Association, and the Thalassemia International Federation. He has an impressive publication record with over 600 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 300 abstracts presented at international conferences such as ASH, EHA, ESMO, TIF, and ELN.
Dr. Yassin’s expertise in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has earned him a position as a scientific advisor for the International CML Foundation. His research interests focus on addressing unmet needs in CML, with notable publications on topics such as obesity, intermittent fasting, and infectious complications in CML patients. He holds two patents, has received over 15 research grants, and has been honored with multiple awards for his contributions to education and research.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Yassin is actively involved in education, serving as a course director for various medical writing, statistics, communication skills, and research methods courses. He mentors and supervises residents, fellows, and students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also holds editorial positions with several high-impact journals, including Frontiers in Oncology, PLOS ONE, and Cancer Control.
