Prof. Dr. Christian Seidl
Vice Medical Director and Professor of experimental Hematology
Christian Seidl studied medicine at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and has been a Clinical Scholar Fellow at the Immunology Program of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York working on transcriptional regulation of HLA class II genes. His clinical training includes hematology-oncology and transfusion medicine at the New York Hospital, the University Hospital in Frankfurt, Departments of Internal Medicine and Institute of Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology of the German Red Cross. He is Professor of Experimental Hematology at the Goethe University Medical School and Director of the Department of Transplantation Immunology associated with the transplant center of the University Hospital and Medical Director of the Blood Transfusion Service in Frankfurt.
Professor Christian Seidl served as Chair of the Working Party on Quality Management of the International Society of Transfusion Medicine (ISBT) and is currently the Vice Chair. He has been Commissioner region 4c of the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI), has been President of the German Society for Immunogenetics (DGI), is Member of the Committees on Quality Management and Organ Transplantation of the DGI and has organized several meetings and conferences related to the field of histocompatibility and immunogenetics and adaptive cellular immune therapy with substances of human origin (SoHO).
His present research is focused on stem cell and organ transplantation and safety of blood and blood components, where he has coordinated Projects (EU-Blood-SOP, EuBIS, CATIE) as well as collaborated in Projects (EU-OBU - Optimal Blood Use) funded by the European Commission (EU). Professor Seidl is Coordinator of the EuBIS Academy initiated under the EU Public Health Program and has been collaborating partner in the EU Project VISTART, Vigilance on Inspection for the Safety of Transfusion, Assisted Reproduction and Transplantation. He is member of the External Advisory Board (EAB) representing ISBT of the GAPP-PRO Joint Action for assessing and authorizing novel substance of human origin preparation PROcesses. Professor Seidl is author and co-author of more than 130 articles and short publications in peer-reviewed journals including book articles and has given numerous lectures on national and international scientific meeting.
