Issam Francis


Dr. Issam Francis, MD, FRCPath, is a highly accomplished professional in the field of pathology. He currently serves as the Acting Chairman of the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University. Additionally, Dr. Francis holds the position of Head of Pathology at MKH Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Francis is actively involved in the advancement of pathology education and training. He serves as the Chairman of the Examination Committee for the Arab Board of Pathology and is a member of the Executive Committee of Examination for the Arab Board of Health Specialization. His main interests revolve around diagnostics, with a specialization in nephropathology. Furthermore, Dr. Francis is deeply committed to enhancing postgraduate pathology programs through formative assessment techniques, the integration of artificial intelligence in medical examinations, and the utilization of digital microscopy in examinations and teleconsultation.

With a wealth of knowledge and expertise, Dr. Francis has published over 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to the field of pathology. In addition, he plays a pivotal role in coordinating the largest Pathology Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program in the MENA region. This program has attracted more than 730 registered residents and has distributed over 9300 certificates to date.

Dr. Francis's dedication to education extends beyond the classroom. He conducts monthly online teaching sessions and journal clubs, engaging with hundreds of residents from various Arab countries. Through these initiatives, he fosters a culture of learning and collaboration, empowering future pathologists to excel in their careers.
