- Graduated from the University of Graz, Austria. After two years of research at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University Graz he changed to the Department of Pathology, where he finished training in 1985.
- In 1985 he was appointed as Associate Prof. of Pathology with tenureship and in 1993 as Prof. of Pathology.
- Acts as reviewer on 35 international journals mainly for lung diseases and molecular research, and as associate editor for Cancers, Frontiers in Oncology, Translational Lung Cancer Research, and Pathology Oncology and Research.
- Published more than 300 articles in peer reviewed international journals and presented oral or posters at numerous international and national meetings.
- Authored a book on Pulmonary Pathology, Springer, 2017, second edition 2021, and another book on Essentials in Pulmonary Pathology together with Dr. Bruno Murer, Springer 2020.
