Dr. Kirthi graduated from the University of Colombo in 1994 and obtained MS Surgery from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo and Post-graduate training in Surgery at Queens Hospital and Newham University Hospital, UK.
He also obtained fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2002, and Fellowship of American College of Surgeons in 2022.
He is instrumental in bringing the ATLS program to Sri Lanka, Founder Chair and current Country Chair for ATLS program in Sri Lanka.
He is the Founder instructor of the National Trauma Care (NTMC) training program since 2008.
He is a medical expert on defense against CBRN incidents (OPCW Haig).
He is a post-graduate trainer and examiner in Surgery & Trauma in Sri Lanka.
He is the Academic chair of the first ever Annual Trauma Conference in Colombo in 2016 and actively participated the subsequent conferences including Academic chair of 2023 conference.
He has many presentations and publications in local and international forums and his publications included in BJA, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care etc.
He is the Coordinating Editor of the National Trauma Manual of Sri Lanka, the official Trauma manual for the newly established A & Es throughout the country in 2023.
He delivered over 30 invited lectures in local and international forums and delivered the keynote address of the centenary celebration of the COT of the American College of Surgeons sessions in Seattle, USA in 2022.
He is a member of expert committee in development of A & E in the country by the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka and current chair of the Clinical Guideline and Protocol Development Committee for Trauma Secretariat of Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka.
