Dr. Mukesh Thakur is Consultant in the Medicine Department at HMC, and is currently leading many quality initiatives in Hamad General Hospital (HGH), including improving the flow in the process of admission and discharge and the use of standard communication in healthcare settings.
Dr. Thakur joined Hamad Medical Corporation in August 2015 and is involved in several education and quality initiatives. He has actively participated in developing an internal medicine fellowship program and in leading a simulation-based procedural training program in his department. He is completing his training with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement USA, as an improvement advisor and Lean for Healthcare from the University of Tennessee USA.
Dr. Thakur completed his training in internal medicine at The Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh and Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) UK. He has extensive clinical experience of over 17 years in various internal medicine specialties, of which more than 12 years have been in the National Health Service, UK. He worked as a senior consultant in the Acute Internal Medicine Department at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust UK, which is one of the largest healthcare facilities in England. During this period he led the department to establish acute care pathways, medical ambulatory care clinics and played a vital role in the transformation of the unit into a center of excellence providing high quality training and education. He also pioneered simulation practices in acute medicine training programs.
Dr. Mukesh served as Director of Training Program in General Internal Medicine (Yorkshire and Humber Postgraduate Deanery); he was the Clinical Lead for Simulation in Acute Internal Medicine (Hull Institute for Learning and Simulation), the Examiner for The Royal College of Physicians UK and Core Faculty (East Yorkshire School of Endoscopy). He has many research, posters and presentations under his name. He is a member of Society for Acute Medicine UK, European Federation of Internal Medicine Society in Europe for Simulation applied to Medicine and Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare UK.
