Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hijji

Dr Ibrahim Al-Hijji is a Senior Hematology Consultant and Unit Head at HMC’s National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), as well as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar.

He previously worked as a specialist in clinical hematology at NCCCR, Hamad Medical Corporation in 2004. Along with his colleagues, he developed an independent unit for clinical hematology and HSCT under the medical oncology department. He was promoted to Consultant in 2006, and then to Sr. Consultant in 2010 and Head of the Unit in 2014. He is also the Director of the Fellowship Program for Clinical Hematology.

He was part-time medical director at Virgin Health Bank – Qatar (VHB-Q) for two years from 2012 to 2014. He and his colleagues have established many activities (MDT, Research, Fellowship, Education and CPG) and recently the Stem Cell Transplantation Unit. He also worked in partnership with the UHN-Toronto and Oxford BMT programs.

He has published articles and case reports related to Hematology and Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). He is an active member of many local, regional and international societies and delivered presentations on different topics related to Hematology at national and regional conferences.

He is actively involved in public awareness raising activities about hematology disorders and stem cells.

Dr. Al-Hijji’s main interest is HSCT and Hemostasis. He received a MBBCh degree from the Royal College in Ireland in 1994. He obtained his internal medicine and clinical hematology specialty training in the UK and subsequently received MRCP in 1997, Assoc. RCPath (Hematology) in 2004 and FRCP in 2007.
