Professor Christine Gaarder, MD, PhD

Professor Christine (Tina) Gaarder, is a Consultant General and Trauma Surgeon, Head of Department of Traumatology at Oslo University Hospital Ullevål (OUH U), the only high-volume trauma center in Norway covering a population of 3 million. She has a trauma training from South Africa and has deployed as a reservist with the Norwegian Armed Forces. She is also the founder of the OUHU dedicated Trauma Service in 2005 and later initiating the Norwegian National Trauma Advisory Unit. Her responsibilities include clinical, administrative, educational and quality improvement in trauma. 

She is also the Trauma Chair on the board of the Norwegian Surgical Society. She is involved in the development and revision of the Norwegian trauma system and in the planning of future hospitals in the capital region. Her responsibilities include running national trauma and acute care surgery educational programs and involved in international trauma surgical training, including a comprehensive project in Ethiopia. 

She was the immediate past president of IATSIC (International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care) and Chair of the Visceral Trauma Section in ESTES (European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery). Her responsibilities include running a broad trauma research program covering a wide range of trauma clinical and epidemiological topics, as well as injury prevention. She is also one of the founders of INTRN (International Trauma Research Network), a multi-center research consortium that has recently finalized an EU-funded project including an RCT in trauma resuscitation. 

Prof. Tina is also an Editorial board member JTACS (Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery), co-editor for TSACO (Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open), as well as a reviewer for 7 other international journals.
