Dr. Med. Simon Laban

Dr Simon Laban is head of the Clinical Trials Unit for Head and Neck Cancer and Coordinator of the Head and Neck Cancer Center of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU). His translational research group is focused on “Cancer Antigens and Immunotherapy”.

Dr. Laban undertook his medical training at the University of Rostock and the University of Heidelberg.  He attained the degree of Doctor of Medicine (Dr. Med.) with a medical thesis at the Department of Dermato-oncology and Tumor Immunology at the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungs-Zentrum, DKFZ) in Heidelberg. His specialty training was in Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) and Head & Neck Surgery which hereceived at the University Medical Center Hamburg and the University Medical Center Ulm (Board Certification in ORL after his habilitation at the University of Ulm he was awarded the ‘venia legendi’ as Privat-Dozent (PD). 

His clinical research focused on cancer immunology of malignant tumors in the head and neck area with a special interest in the analysis of cancer-antigens as potential targets for cancer immunotherapy. Currently, he is enrolled in the ‘Clinician Scientist Program’ of the University Medical Center Ulm; he is working towards personalized and semi-personalized vaccination strategies in collaboration with the group of Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Rammensee at Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen, Germany.

Dr. LAban is a member of the Head and Neck Cancer Group within the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), he is also a member of the Cancer Vaccine Collaborative of the Cancer Research Institute.
