Cristina obtained a Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences (1990) and a Ph.D. (1996) in Applied Genetics at the University of Milan, Italy.
She undertook her career initially at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, Italy and then at the Surgery Branch, National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA.
She worked as investigator at the “Istituto Superiore di Sanita” Rome, Italy and the Unit of Immuno-biotherapy of Melanoma and Solid Tumors at the San Raffaele Foundation Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy.
In 2013 she contributed to the establishment of a novel laboratory dedicated to the identification of cancer biomarkers within the context of the Italian Network for Biotherapy of Tumors-(NIBIT)
Cristina joined the Translational Medicine Department, Sidra Medical and Research Center in 2015. Her research interest lies in immunology, tumor immunology and immunotherapy, with focus on the functional characterization of immune responses, cancer stem cells and biomarkers predictive of patients’ clinical outcome and responsiveness to therapies
Cristina is author/co-author of about 59 original peer-reviewed publications and 3 chapter books.
Dr. Maccalli is Associate Editor of The Journal of Translational Medicine and reviewer of international scientific journals such as Journal of Immunology, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, and Frontiers Immunology.
She was involved as lecturer in NIBIT educational courses in ImmunOncology and is a member of the Society of Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) where she serves as a member of working groups on immunotherapy biomarkers and of the review committee.
