A consummate scientist, Dr. Dorbala earned praise for her research on the molecular imaging of amyloidosis. Notably, her lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital was the first use F-18 florbetapir to image cardiac amyloidosis.
In a career spanning 21 years, she published more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific articles, mentored more than 25 academic scientists and earned numerous honors, including the American Heart
Association’s Mentoring Award.
Dr. Sharmila Dorbala served on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, President of American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), nominating and awards committees. Her volunteer leadership extended to the SNMMI, where she served on the board and served as the President of the Cardiovascular Council. At the national level, she was an influential voice on the Award and Grants Committee of SNMMI.
