Dr. Jens Thomsen

Dr. Jens Thomsen has joined the Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi in 2007, and is currently holding the position of Section Head, Environmental Health at the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center (ADPHC). 

Dr. Thomsen is a physician (Dr. med./MD) and consultant in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases epidemiology. Dr. Thomsen is also a public health professional, holding a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University (Atlanta, USA). Furthermore, Dr Thomsen has a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), and holds certificates in both, hospital infection control and antibiotic stewardship.

Dr. Thomsen has 25+ years of professional experience, in both clinical medicine and public health. 

Dr. Thomsen is a member of the UAE Higher Committee for Antimicrobial Resistance and a member of the UAE Sub-Committee for ASP, and he is leading the UAE National Sub-Committee for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance. 

In another role Dr. Thomsen is currently serving in the capacity of President, Emirates Society for Clinical Microbiology (ESCM), and has been appointed as an adjunct associate professor for infectious diseases at Khalifa University Abu Dhabi (UAE).
