Dr. Anuja Java

Dr. Anuja Java is a transplant nephrologist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and serves as Director of Kidney Transplantation at the John Cochran VA Medical Center, St. Louis, USA.

Her research focuses on defining the functional consequences of genetic variants identified in patients with complement-mediated diseases. These structure–function studies support individualized clinical decision-making and precision care. She co-chairs the NIH-funded Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen) Complement Gene Curation Expert Panel.

Clinically, Dr. Java specializes in the care of kidney transplant recipients, with particular expertise in patients at risk for recurrent glomerular diseases. She chairs the Transplant Subcommittee of the National VA Advisory Board.

Dr. Java has held several national and international leadership roles, including service on the ASN Career Advancement Committee. She was an elected Councilor for Women in Nephrology (WIN) and later served as WIN Secretary. She is also Co-Chair of the ISN Education Working Group for Complement Pathway Disease and Genetics in Kidney Disease curricula. In recognition of her contributions, she received the 2022 National Kidney Foundation Award of Excellence for significant impact in kidney disease and the renal community.​
