Alexandre Loupy, MD, PhD
Alexandre Loupy is Professor of Nephrology andEpidemiology at Necker Hospital (Université Paris Cité)and Director of the Paris Institute for Transplantation &Organ Regeneration (PITOR).
As a physician, researcher, and epidemiologist, he is internationally recognized fortransforming precision medicine in transplantationthrough the integration of multi-omics data, artificialintelligence tools, and large-scale clinical networks.
As head of the Paris Transplant Group (PTG), a nationalnetwork uniting 11 institutions and more than 20,000transplanted patients, he leads a multidisciplinary teamof clinicians, pathologists, immunologists, data scientists, and computationalbiologists. His research has led to the identification of new forms of rejection, theincorporation of donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies into international standards, andfour major revisions of the Banff Classification, where he currently chairs theScientific Committee.
Prof. Loupy has pioneered diagnostic and predictive tools, including the iBox system(the international standard for predicting long-term allograft survival) and AI-basedvirtual biopsy platforms. He is principal investigator of multiple clinical trials andhas secured major competitive funding (H2020 EU-TRAIN, RHU KTD-Innov, ERC AICARE,ANR). His work has been published in the most prestigious journals (NEJM,Lancet, Nature Medicine, BMJ) and widely cited across transplantation medicine.
Beyond academic research, he serves as Associate Editor of the American Journal ofTransplantation, is an active member of the scientific committees of ESOT, KDIGO,and the US National Academies of Sciences, and advises both the FDA and AP-HPon innovation in transplantation. His contributions have been recognized withnumerous awards, including from the French Academy of Medicine, ESOT, the PaulTerasaki Award, the Institut Universitaire de France, and the INSERM Innovation Prize.
At the interface of clinical care, science, and innovation, Alexandre Loupy haspositioned the Paris Institute for Transplantation & Organ Regeneration (PITOR)as a global leader in transplantation. He stands today as a recognized internationalleader in precision medicine and xenotransplantation, strengthened by hisstrategic partnership with the NYU Langone Transplant Institute (Prof. RobertMontgomery).
