In case of emergency, patients should go to the Emergency Department in one of the following hospitals: Hamad General Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital or Al Khor Hospital. The Consultation and Liaison team provide assessment, treatment and advice at these locations.

The Mental Health Service provides Hamad General Hospital (HGH) with a 24-hour consultation liaison team to diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of mental health disorders. The consultation-team consists of two attending psychiatrists (consultant and specialist) and one resident under rotation. The goal of the service is to provide patients with access to quality mental health services at HGH.


 

Healthcare specialists from the Psychiatry Hospital offer a full range of mental health services to support the mental wellbeing of patients at NCCCR. Through a multifaceted approach, a range of cases, including stress and depression related disorders, are effectively diagnosed, managed and treated within the department.

The Social Services and Research Departments at NCCCR have a dedicated team of professionals who work with individuals and families to address personal and social issues that affect their wellbeing. We have wide ranging experience in supporting families through difficult times and helping them to deal with illness, disability and loss. These are issues which can often be overwhelming without the right advice, care and support. The department also plays a key role in conflict resolution and crisis intervention, with high levels of success in this area.




 

Al Khor Hospital provides access to specialized mental health care for patients across the hospital’s medical, surgical and emergency departments. The service, which provides consultation across departments to patients who may also have other existing conditions, is staffed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of the following specialized clinicians:

  • A senior consultant psychiatrist
  • Geriatric psychiatrist
  • Specialist psychiatrist
  • Clinical psychologist
  • Social worker

Services are provided through an Outpatient Clinic for newly referred patients from different primary health care centers in the north of the country and those referred from the Psychiatry Hospital inpatient clinic as required.

Specific mental health care services include psychology services provided through a clinical psychologist who participates in diagnosing some patients and it also provides different types of psychological therapies.

The consultants and specialists who are on-call carry out consultations for inpatients in all wards of Al Khor Hospital who present with some mental health symptoms or develop them during hospitalization as well as those who already have mental health diagnoses.





 

Al Wakra Hospital (AWH) provides access to specialized mental health care for patients across the hospital’s medical, surgical, and emergency departments. The service, which provides consultation across departments to patients who may also have other existing conditions, is staffed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of the following specialized clinicians:

  • Senior consultant psychiatrist
  • Geriatric consultant psychiatrist
  • Specialist psychiatrist
  • Clinical psychologist
  • Social worker

The specialized mental health team’s everyday duties include covering AWH’s Emergency Department on a 24/7 basis. In addition, the service also manages an outpatient clinic twice a week and treats on average 200 patients per month across all medical specialties.

The mental health services at AWH most commonly receive referrals to their program involving patients with depression, and also patients who are experiencing a range of mental illnesses we are now able to assess and provide treatment for on location at AWH. All cases referred to the AWH Mental Health Service are assessed on the same day based on clinical priorities.
