Doha, 2 June 2021: Hamad Medical Corporation has been awarded the ‘Elite Hospital’ award in phase two of the Arab Hospitals Federation Gold Initiative for its role throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Arab Hospitals Federation launched the second phase of its Gold Initiative to recognize and acknowledge the efforts and procedures of hospitals across the region to overcome the pandemic and provide distinguished services for patients.

“HMC’s dedicated healthcare teams have made an important contribution to the nation’s measures to protect Qatar’s population and ensure every patient with COVID-19 has been able to receive fast and effective care,” said Mr. Ali Al Janahi, HMC's Acting Assistant Managing Director and Chief of Business Services.

“For more than 17 months, clinical and support staff at HMC have worked alongside teams at the Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation and other healthcare partners in Qatar to combat the threat of the virus. Across the world, the role of healthcare staff has become more valued and appreciated throughout this pandemic than ever before. This award is testament to our staff at HMC and the role they play in supporting the health and wellbeing of our community,” explained Al Janahi.

The Arab Hospitals Federation judging panel determined that HMC had excelled in all eight categories that were assessed as part of the awards: Regulatory staff to the government; Good governance and leadership; Community engagement; Vaccination planning, administration and distribution; Infection control; Training and education, staff support and protection; Building post COVID-19 services; and Innovative technology.

“Hamad Medical Corporation is proud to receive this recognition from the Arab Hospitals Federation. This is a wonderful project that aims to showcase the efforts of healthcare providers across the region in meeting the unprecedented challenge presented by COVID-19,” said Mr. Ali Al Khater, HMC’s Chief Communications Officer.

“In addition to dedicating seven hospitals as COVID-19 facilities to care for patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 symptoms, HMC has played an important role in many other COVID-19 measures: expanding laboratory testing; operating quarantine and isolation facilities; raising community awareness; the safe transfer of COVID-19 patients; and running virtual services including mental health, pharmacy delivery and urgent care consultations,” added Mr. Al Khater.
