Doha, 10 February, 2019: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is inviting the public to participate in a number of activities being organized by the healthcare provider in recognition of Qatar National Sport Day. The activities, which will take place at Katara Cultural Village on 12 February from 8am to 6pm, aim to highlight the importance of sport in building a healthy community, while also raising awareness about the many benefits of physical activity and inspiring the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
A variety of activities, including free body mass index (BMI) testing, blood sugar, blood pressure, and other health checks, will be available, with nurses and dietitians from HMC on hand to answer questions.
Representatives from the Kulluna for Health and Safety campaign, Ambulance Service, National Diabetes Center, Tobacco Cessation Center, and Blood Donation Unit will also be on site, raising awareness about the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Qatar is one of the only nations in the world to dedicate a national holiday to sport. The initiative is in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the country’s clear commitment to a future that supports a healthy population by encouraging good lifestyle choices and promoting public health.
The events organized by HMC focus on raising awareness about sport and highlight the importance of sport in reducing the prevalence of health conditions associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, obesity, coronary heart disease, and depression.
HMC, as the main provider of secondary and tertiary healthcare in Qatar, is proud to be part of Qatar’s annual National Sport Day celebrations. The day provides an important opportunity to highlight the benefit of sport in building a healthy community, which aligns with HMC’s vision to provide the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care to patients.
