TB contacts: those persons who have a risk of acquiring tuberculosis because they have shared air environment with the index patient. The degree of risk is dependent upon the duration and frequency of exposure and is influenced by the degree of infectiousness of the patient and the immune status of the exposed person.
The aim of contact screening is to prevent/ decrease transmission of TB in Qatar.

- Persons who work or reside in facilities or institutions with people who are at high risk for TB, such as hospitals that care for TB patients, homeless shelters, correctional facilities and jails

- Reports and recommendation
- Education to clients and their family members
- Direct observe therapy short course
- Community supervised therapy
Important information for patients
Contact Screening is a simple test performed on a large number of people to identify those who have or are likely to develop specific disease. More than 4000 patients are seen annually in Contact screening section. The process of identifying relevant contacts of a person who has an infectious TB and ensuring those contacts are aware of their exposure. Tracing of contacts is done through surveillance program which include a network of information that include the patient’s medical records and microbiological reports of any positive sputum smears or cultures which are regularly sent from the laboratory.
Patients need to bring the following in order to access their services
- A referral from any HMC/PHC Physician to CDC -OPD ID Physician with brief history of the Index case
- Health card / QID
- Passport or passport copy
- The appointment card if he/she is already scheduled.
Information about the discharge process
Patient is discharged from contact screening - CDC-OPD in the following conditions
- At the completion of treatment.
- The client goals and needs are met
- According to the discharge plans from the ID physicians.

Sunday to Thursday - 7am to 3pm for inpatients and outpatients contacts.
- Contacts those who are unable to come during day time will be schedule for evening clinic from 3.30pm to 6pm.
- For Pediatric blood investigations patient will report to HGH OPD Pediatric Lab if required.
