Community Supervised Therapy is the application of Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) in the community in which the DOT provider, usually a nurse, is accessible to the patient, either at home or job site to ensure strict compliance of patients with treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in Qatar.

Our Services

It is aimed at all adult patients at Communicable Disease Center outpatient clinics who are on anti-tuberculosis treatment and: 
  • Have no access to the Communicable Disease Center Treatment Room or nearby health centers. 
  • Are elderly or physically disabled patients. 
  • Are in the high-risk category i.e., MDR or XDR TB. 
  • Have demonstrated inability, unreliability, or unwillingness to take medication unsupervised. 
Patient will receive services as follows: 
  • Assessments.
  • Individual treatment.
  • Group sessions
  • Reports and recommendations
  • Education to clients and their family members. 
  • Community supervises therapy.
Patients need to bring in order to access their services:
  • Health card / QID 
  • Passport or passport copy
  • The DOT appointment card if he/she is already scheduled.
Information for patients

A patient’s responsibilities include:
  • Being available at the agreed time and place of the CST nurse’s visit. 
  • Taking the medicine in the presence of the CST nurse. 
  • Informing the CST nurse of any adverse effects. 
  • Informing the CST nurse of any change in schedule or place of medication administration and scheduling other suitable time and place. 
  • Contacting the CST nurse before any travel abroad and providing alternate contact information. 
Information about discharge process

A patient is discharged from contact screening - CDC -OPD on the following conditions
  • After completion of treatment
  • The Patient goals and needs are met
  • According to the discharge plans from the ID physicians.
