Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, ICU and Perioperative Medicine, HMC Prof. Dr. Marco A.E. Marcus received his training in the Netherlands and Belgium. He has a background in cardiac physiology and pharmacokinetics research and is the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, ICU and Perioperative Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Prior to joining HMC, Prof. Dr. Marcus was employed as an Anesthesiologists and clinical investigator at KU Leuven and the Westfaelischen Wilhelms Universitaet Muenster, Germany. Here he led the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Neuro-Anesthesia departments.
Prof. Dr. Marcus’ clinical and research interests focus on the topics of education, the transition of acute into chronic pain, pharmacokinetics, new materials and blood management. Prof. Dr. Marcus has been involved in the development of several national clinical guidelines and is the winner of several awards, including, the Bier Price of the Direção-Geral de Administração Interna (DGAI). He has authored numerous book chapters, more than 170 cited articles, and numerous non-cited articles. He is also an active conference and symposium guest speaker.
