Professor Seema Kumar

Dr. Seema Kumar is Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is the Chair of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. She also serves as the program director of the Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship program at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. She completed her residency in general pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology and metabolism at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr. Kumar is the medical director of the Pediatric Weight Management Program and the Adolescent Bariatric Program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. She has been the primary investigator of several clinical trials in children with obesity including those examining the impact of vitamin D supplementation on cardiometabolic risk markers.

Dr. Kumar has over 150 scientific publications and presentations in national and international journals and conferences. Dr. Kumar’s interests include the treatment of childhood obesity, bariatric surgery in adolescents, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia and related cardiometabolic risk factors. She is the past Co-Chair of the Data Monitoring Committee of Pediatric Obesity and Weight Evaluation Registry (POWER), the first multicenter registry in the United States of 31 pediatric multidisciplinary weight management programs.
