
Dr. Hawabibee Mahir Petkar, M.B.B.S, M.D (Medical Microbiology), FRCPath.
Dr. Petkar is a senior consultant in the Microbiology Division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar. She is also the Microbiology Section Head of the Aisha bint Hamad Al-Attiyah Hospital laboratory in North Qatar. She completed her undergraduate studies from India.
Dr. Petkar entered the United Kingdom training program for Medical Microbiology in 2003 at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, London. She gained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists and entry onto the Specialist Register in 2008. She had been practicing as a consultant microbiologist in the National Health Service of the United Kingdom for 10 years before moving to Qatar. As a U.K. consultant, she was the Head of the Microbiology Department in Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust in London. She is currently a technical assessor to ISO 15189:2022 for the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
Dr. Petkar takes a proactive role in laboratory management, with particular emphasis on continuing quality improvement, risk management and diagnostic stewardship. Outside of the laboratory, her special interests lie in clinical microbiology, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and patient care. She has held Lead roles in antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, laboratory informatics, pathology education and training, clinical governance and laboratory website management.
