Emergency Clinical Imaging is a subspecialty of Clinical Imaging department. The division of Emergency Clinical Imaging provides imaging services for the new Trauma and Emergency Center at Hamad General Hospital which is the largest in the region and marks a significant expansion of trauma and emergency services in Qatar.
The Trauma and Emergency Center covers four floors of a bespoke complex that continues to serve the ever-growing population of Doha providing a full range of integral imaging services 24/7 throughout the week for the emergency patients. Emergency Clinical Imaging provides crucial and timely diagnostic services on each level ranging from trauma to urgent and critical care patients. The Emergency Clinical Imaging division is well equipped to render round-the-clock services for acute emergency cases including trauma patients from the Level 1 Trauma Centre which is accredited by the ACI (Accreditation Canada International). The division is also providing unwavering services to the Covid-19 patients in the current pandemic situation.
Emergency Clinical Imaging division was established at HMC in October 2007 with three radiologists on board. The team has since evolved to include senior consultants, consultants, specialists and fellows, providing unhindered quality service to emergency and trauma patients.
Emergency Clinical Imaging division continuously strives to achieve and adhere to high quality through their active participation in quality improvement audits and projects, in keeping with the IPSG standards. This also includes regular update and revision of radiology policies and protocols towards reduction in radiation dose and contrast dose. The team is actively involved in research with many publications in international peer-reviewed journals to its credit.
In a quest to improve the reporting standards, the Emergency Clinical Imaging division is actively involved in teaching and training radiology residents. Lectures, case based discussions, didactics and tutorials are conducted on a regular basis. The team has a robust Peer review mechanism in place so as to achieve the highest standards in achieving quality of reports.
The Emergency Clinical Imaging division is structured to provide patients and families a very safe environment adhering to all the clinical and radiation safety standards.
The team has achieved excellence in patient-centric service. The contribution of the team was acknowledged with the prestigious “Excellence in Radiology Award” it received at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress in 2014.
Being part of a dynamic team in the Trauma and Emergency Center at HMC during an era that has destabilized the ‘normal’, it is comforting to know that the commitment displayed by the Emergency Clinical Imaging staff is something to be proud of.
Emergency Imaging Clinical Services:
We collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of primary care physicians and subspecialists, including emergency medicine physicians and trauma surgeons, to offer comprehensive, coordinated emergency and trauma imaging services to all of our patients. We also play an active role in optimizing and streamlining all emergent imaging.
The depth and breadth of emergency imaging services is unique since it spans all modalities and organ systems. We play a vital role in the timely, head-to-toe diagnosis and management of patients who are acutely ill, injured, and traumatized. This includes providing imaging services for brain and nervous system disorders, airway, breathing and lung conditions and various emergencies including gastrointestinal, genitourinary and musculoskeletal conditions.
We interpret urgent radiographs, CT scans, and ultrasound studies. We also perform comprehensive imaging in polytrauma and for acute stroke as part of our services and for the entire range of conditions that bring patients to the emergency department.
The Emergency Clinical Imaging division at the new Trauma Centre is well equipped with latest state of the art imaging equipment which includes 6 X-ray rooms, 1 fluoroscopy room, 1 C-arm unit, 4 Ultrasound machines, 4 portable X-ray units, 3 CT scanners and 1 MRI unit.
In view of the current pandemic scenario, we have a dedicated floor with CT and Ultrasound units to cater to the covid-19 positive patients with strictest disinfection protocols in place.
