
Dr.Karam Turk
Dr. Karam Turk-Adawi is an Associate Professor in Health Policy and Management and the Head of the Department of Public Health/College of Health Sciences. She earned her PhD from Brandeis University, Massachusetts, USA. She has two Master's degrees in Public Health and in Social Science. She is a recipient of the Open Society Institute Scholarship 2006-2012.
Dr. Karam has extensive research collaborations with international organizations, including the World Health Organization, the American, and Canadian associations for cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation (AACVPR, and CACPR). Her research centers on global health, clinical registries, non-communicable diseases and risk factors, with a specific focus on cardiovascular diseases and cardiac rehabilitation programs. She has published over 50 papers in top-tier journals, including Lancet, Nature, and Circulation. She also authored clinical practice guidelines. She has been influential in the development of the International Cardiac Rehabilitation (https://globalcardiacrehab.com/ICRR-Governance). She is also leading the development of Qatar National Cardiac Rehabilitation Registry. She secured several grants to conduct her research as the lead PI.
Dr. Adawi has served on national and international committees. She is the Co-Chair of the International Cardiac Rehab Registry. She served on the World Health Organization’s expert panel for the development of the Rehabilitation Package 2030. She also served as a reviewer of consensus and position statements and clinical guidelines.
