Dr. Abdalla Zarroug
Dr. Abdalla E. Zarroug is the Division Chief of General/Thoracic Surgery at Sidra Medicine. As such, he is responsible for leading the Pediatric General Surgery Unit to ensure delivery of a high standard of patient-focused and transformative surgical care.
Dr. Zarroug’s interests include fetal surgery and neonatal minimally invasive surgery. He also has an in interest in pediatric thoracic surgery, robotic surgery, and adolescent bariatric surgery. Dr. Zarroug brings to Sidra Medicine more than 15 years’ experience of pediatric and fetal surgery in the USA.
Most recently, he was a Senior Consultant Pediatric Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At Mayo Clinic he led pediatric robotic surgery, adolescent bariatric surgery and pediatric fetal surgery practices.
Dr. Zarroug has over 100 scientific publications and presentations in national and international journals and conferences and multiple clinical awards. He is American Board Certified in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery; a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); a committee member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA) and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG); and is a board member of the Sudanese American Medical Association.
Dr. Zarroug is actively involved in volunteerism in pediatric surgery. He has led multiple surgical teams into war-torn areas and helped establish a US-styled pediatric surgery fellowship in Sudan, doubling its number of pediatric surgeons.
Dr. Zarroug received his undergraduate degree at Brown University and his medical degree from Cornell (Weill) University Medical College. He completed his General Surgery Residency and Research Fellowship at Mayo Clinic and his Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Emory University, Atlanta.
