After graduating from the Medical School of Tripoli University in Libya, he moved to the UK in 2001 for postgraduate training. Dr. Ashawesh initially worked in Wales (Prince Charles Hospital) and Liverpool (Royal Liverpool University Hospital), after which he went on to have his specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology at West Midlands Deanery (University Hospital of Coventry, Princess Royal Hospital, Russells Hall Hospital and George Eliot Hospital).
Following completion of his specialist training program, beginning of 2010, Dr. Ashawesh joined the Diabetes and Endocrinology team at Russells Hall Hospital (Dudley) as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Senior Lecturer (University of Birmingham). In 2015, he moved to Qatar where he has been working as a Senior Consultant Endocrinologist at the National Diabetes Centre (Al Wakra Hospital).
