Lynn Oertel recently retired as the Nursing Practice Specialist with the Anticoagulation Management Service (AMS) at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. This AMS is one of the largest and oldest anticoagulation clinics in the United States. She received her Master of Science degree in Adult Primary Care from Boston University and her Bachelor of Science degree from the Statue University of New York-Plattsburgh. She is licensed as an adult nurse practitioner and is a Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider. Ms. Oertel is recognized as an expert nurse clinician in anticoagulation therapy management and has over 35 years of clinical and research experience.  

A nurse leader and educator in the anticoagulation arena, Ms. Oertel has authored or coauthored more than 70 publications and presentations on this topic; including co-editor and chapter author of the textbook: Managing Oral Anticoagulation Therapy: Clinical and Operational Guidelines, 3rd Edition, edited by Drs. Ansell and Wittkowsky and herself. Ms. Oertel has been instrumental in introducing new or enhanced services for inpatient and outpatient populations at the Massachusetts General Hospital in a variety of multidisciplinary settings, with the goal of improving clinical outcomes and anticoagulation management. Ms. Oertel is a founding board member and President of the National Certification Board of Anticoagulation Providers (the only multi-disciplinary national certification for anticoagulation care providers); a member of the National Blood Clot Alliance, Medical and Scientific Advisory Board; and serves on the Advisory Council for the Anticoagulation Forum. She continues to serve as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis.
