Construction Starts on Hamad General Hospital’s State of the Art Surgery Center
Construction work has started on the new state-of-the-art surgery facility at Hamad General Hospital which will include 20 new operating theaters, which will replace the 11 currently in use.
Located facing Al Rayyan Road next to Hamad General Hospital, construction work started today (Sunday) and the project is slated for completion in 2015.
The new 12,000 square meter surgery center will house dedicated operating theaters for a range of specialties including bariatric, pediatric, minimally invasive, trauma vascular and transplant surgeries.
The new surgery department will integrate with Hamad General Hospital’s existing facilities, and other planned developments for the adjacent Emergency Department to provide enhanced trauma patient facilities.
“HMC is currently undertaking an extensive program to renovate and enhance its facilities to ensure that we continue to offer the safest, most effective care to our patients and meet the healthcare needs of Qatar’s growing population,” said Hanan Al Kuwari PhD, Managing Director, Hamad Medical Corporation.
“Facilities will incorporate the latest technologies including modular theater wall systems incorporating automated sliding doors and fully integrated environmental control systems. In another first for Qatar, the center will also house specialist imaging facilities including MRI and CT within the operating theatre suite itself.”
This project has been designed to minimize disruption, but patients and visitors are advised to take into account the construction works when visiting the hospital.
Where interruptions to daily routines or pathways are absolutely necessary, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Hamad General Hospital will ensure patients, visitors and staff will be informed of the nature of the disruptions and alternatives ahead of time.
Access to the Emergency Department and all other Hamad General Hospital facilities will remain unchanged.
HMC would like to thank patients and visitors for their patience and cooperation while we work to improve our hospital.
