Qatar’s national health insurance scheme, Seha, is managed and operated by the government-owned National Health Insurance Company.
The scheme will provide mandatory health insurance coverage, through a network of public and private providers, for everyone in the country and forms a key component in the realization of the National Health Strategy and the overall Qatar National Vision. Under the scheme, patients are able to choose from a range of participating public or private providers. The payment for their treatment will be met by the insurance funding body, so the patient’s choice is based purely on their preference.
Stage one of Seha was launched in July 2013, covering Qatari females aged 12 and above for gynecology, obstetrics, maternity and related women’s health conditions. HMC participated in this stage of the scheme at Women’s Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital and Cuban Hospital.
Stage two of Seha commenced in April 2014 and covers admitted and non-admitted services for all Qatari nationals. HMC began participating in Stage two for admitted patients at four Hospitals (Hamad General Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Cuban Hospital) in April 2014 and by December 2014 all HMC Hospitals were participating for Stage 2 admitted services.
HMC is now beginning to rollout Stage 2 of the scheme for Non-Admitted services on a phased basis. NCCCR is expected to be the first hospital to begin participation in September/October 2015.
