The Neonatology Department at The Cuban Hospital provides critical and non-critical care to babies with medical problems and/or traumatic injuries. Cooperating closely with internal and external departments; including gynecology, labor and delivery, surgery, emergency and the operating theater, the Post Natal Unit and home delivery services; our primary concern is to offer the best possible care and to create a safe environment for babies and their families so that these children can go on to lead happy and productive lives.
The department is specialized in treating infants from birth to three months and those born prematurely. It has a 10 bed capacity and is situated near the labor and delivery section so that babies experiencing problems after birth can be speedily cared for. Our specialized staff of seven, sees an average of 30 patients a month. In addition to four intensive and five intermediate care beds, we have an isolation room for newborns that are at particular risk of contracting infections.
Our staff expertly assesses a newborn’s condition according to clearly defined criteria, while factoring in the maternal and family history situation. Standard diagnostic procedures are complemented by ancillary radiology and laboratory findings when necessary. We are available for diagnostic consultation 24 hours a day.
Parents are allowed to visit their babies anytime except during doctor’s rounds (9am to 11am), during invasive procedure, and during change of shift. Please check section here for details about visiting.
