NMED develops and delivers an education strategy and conceptual framework to drive purposeful, standardized and staged professional development for HMC’s nurses and midwives.

This is achieved through:

  • Establishing and maintaining a sustainable corporate educational quality assurance, governance structure and process for nursing and midwifery education (the Teaching and Learning Board) to ensure on-going compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Managing and processing practice-based education, CPD applications, participant records and the award of CPD hours through the Teaching and Learning Board.
  • Working in partnership with clinical nursing and midwifery networks to ensure educational activities reflect the agreed evidence-based competencies, standards, policies, guidelines, scope of practice and professional license for core, specialty and advanced practice.
  • Actively leading or engaging in the updating or drafting of new evidence-based educational, clinical and leadership competencies to reflect scopes of practice in collaboration with clinical nursing and midwifery networks.
  • Ensuring an annual comprehensive educational needs assessment is undertaken for each specialty or service to drive professional development offerings for the following 12-month period.
  • Developing and publishing an annual calendar of educational activities to support workload planning and access to education for HMC nurses and midwives on the HMC intranet.
  • Identifying on-going service, specialty and corporate educational needs and trends to support the development of purposeful educational programs (i.e. unit-based education and/or CPD) to meet those needs.
  • Providing a corporate educational and practice development consultancy service to clinical teams through the assignment of NMED nurse and midwife educators based on priority and service needs.
  • Actively engaging, collaborating with and supporting facility education teams in the design, delivery and evaluation of corporate and specialty educational activities based on service needs and priorities.
  • Participating in nursing/midwifery shortlisting and promotion interviews to support capacity building within education.
  • Supporting and promoting Qatarization through the mentorship and nurturing of Qatari nurses and midwives from across the corporation.
