Modernizing for a Healthier Future: Enhancing Care at Hamad General Hospital​

Q. How long will the modernization program take to complete?
A. The renovation is expected to last a total of three years, beginning in 2025.

Q. Which areas of the hospital will be affected by the renovation?
A. Phase one of the renovation will focus on the two inpatient towers and the ground floor beneath them. Some outpatient clinics will be relocated to other hospitals during this time.

Q. Will Hamad General Hospital remain open during the renovation?
A. HGH will continue to provide the full range of medical, surgical and emergency services. The Trauma and Emergency Center will continue to operate as normal.​

Q. How will this impact patient care?
A. This program of work will enhance patient care. Despite the temporary relocation of some services, HMC’s overall bed capacity is increasing, and high-quality care will continue across all facilities. Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital and the Medical Care and Research Center, where most services will be transferred to, are ultra-modern facilities and will provide advanced care environments for patients during the renovation phase. Once complete, the program of work will enhance the patient care experience at HGH for years to come. ​

Q. What new features will the renovated Hamad General Hospital offer?
A. Once completed, the renovated hospital will feature single-patient rooms, upgraded technical systems, and modernized facilities, providing a better healthcare environment for patients.

Q. Which hospitals will receive the relocated services from Hamad General Hospital?
A. The relocated services will mainly move to Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital and the Medical Care and Research Center, HMC’s two most modern and advanced facilities.

Q. Will there be a reduction in bed capacity at Hamad General Hospital during the renovation?
A. Although some beds will be closed during the renovation, HMC’s overall bed capacity will actually increase, as new beds and services have been added in other hospitals, such as Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital and the Medical Care and Research Center.

Q. How will this modernization benefit patients in the long run?
A. The upgraded facilities and systems will enhance the quality of care, offering patients a more comfortable and advanced medical environment. This modernization will help maintain Hamad General Hospital’s role as a leading healthcare provider in Qatar.

Q. Will the Trauma and Emergency Center remain open?
A. ​Yes. Patients with life-threatening conditions can still visit the Trauma and Emergency Center for medical care. Please remember that urgent, non-emergency, conditions can be treated efficiently in one of Primary Health Care Corporation’s ten Urgent Care Centers and patients with non-urgent conditions should be make a routine appointment at their primary health center.
