The Communicable Disease Center provides a number of outpatient clinics to cater to the needs of our patients. Many communicable diseases can be treated in an outpatient setting and this enables patients to have a better quality of life and spend more time with their family and friends.
Outpatient clinics are available for patients with tuberculosis, HIV and AIDs, leprosy and respiratory infections (such as influenza or pneumonia) in addition to other infections. This includes both adults and children.
The CDC has a fixed-time appointment system and appointments are only made for patients with a referral from the inpatient units, other Hamad Medical Corporation facilities or services, from a Primary Health Care Corporation Clinic or other government and private health clinics.
The clinical team is highly specialized in treating and managing patients with communicable diseases, offering a holistic view to healthcare with a multi-disciplinary approach.
Outpatient appointments are offered to patients to manage their ongoing care and provide any medical interventions required, as well as to follow up on previous care provided.
In addition the Outpatient Department does the following:
- Manages referrals with suspected or pre-existing tuberculosis identified by the Medical Commission (MC) and Occupational Health Departments at the Ministry of Public Health
- Manages referrals of suspected or confirmed HIV cases
- Manages referrals from the Hamad Medical Corporation Staff Medical Center, including cases of suspected exposure to infectious agents at work and new recruits with blood-borne pathogens
- Manages referrals with infections discovered on pre-martial testing and provides the necessary treatment and counselling
- Travel Clinic services
- Contact tracing for diseases of public health importance
