The confederate/cluster model has been adopted by many leading international institutions such as Cambridge, Harvard and Stanford. This has many advantages and allows for each institution to retain its own identity and leadership but to work in partnership by aligning vision, values, goals, processes and systems. This model is most suitable for new and emerging partnerships and is the model that we will be pursuing for the Academic Health System Initiative.
