Susan Clelland is the Director of the National Mental Health Program based at the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar.
She is a senior healthcare professional with over 30 years' experience of working across health and social care sectors. She has spent the last 11 years working in the Middle East leading mental health policy reform.
Susan leads the National Mental Health Program which has responsibility for ensuring the development and implementation of national and international strategic plans and initiatives related to mental health. She was directly involved in writing Qatar's first National Mental Health Strategy and National Autism Plan as well as their associated implementation plans. She was also responsible for supporting the development of the Mental Health Law in Qatar.
She actively works with various organisations to raise awareness about mental health and has been involved in the development of a number of awareness campaigns. Susan was instrumental in developing the first online mental health resource for Qatar as well as developing a dedicated Mental Health Attitudes and Awareness Index and Survey which is conducted every two years.
In addition, Susan works in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office to ensure Qatar's plans for mental health support the global policy direction.
