Title: Motivational interviewing skills for healthcare professionals
Target audience
Motivational interviewing aims to put health behavior change in the hands of the patients. This session is for healthcare professionals in any healthcare setting that aim to encourage patient engagement to achieve optimal treatment outcomes; for example, where the patient interaction is structured to encourage them to adopt healthier lifestyle choices or better adherence to the treatment plan.
Learning objectives
After attending the workshop, the participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of principles, core concepts and critical skills in motivational interviewing
- Identify opportunities for change talk in their daily patient encounters
- Use basic motivational interview approach to promote positive behavior change in others
