Following a first career in aeronautical engineering, Dr. Roger graduated in medicine from Bristol, UK. After training in Manchester and at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, he moved to Stevenage in 1988 to establish a new renal unit (Lister) where he was Clinical Director for 20 years. The Lister Renal Unit now provides services from five centres across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex (pop 1.5M) and maintains a high profile for innovation and service development.
As a Consultant Nephrologist in the NHS, Dr. Roger has interests in HDF, home dialysis, conservative management of kidney failure and end-of-life issues. Dr. Roger was the first UK co-coordinator of the DOPPS study in 1997.
Dr. Roger has had a career interest in health policy and leadership having been President of the British Renal Society (1997-2000), Chairman of the UK Kidney Alliance (2003-2007) and co-author of the NHS Renal National Service Framework (2001-2004). RG has been a recent member of the East of England Cardiovascular Strategic Clinical Network, the EoE Clinical Senate and the NHS Clinical Reference Group for dialysis. A co-founder of the UK Annual Dialysis Conference, Dr. Roger continues on the advisory faculty.
