Dr. M. Rami Alfarra, Principal Scientist, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)

Dr. Rami Alfarra is a principal scientist at the Environment and Sustainability Centre (ESC) at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI). He has 20+ years of international experience in atmospheric aerosols and their impact on air quality, climate change, and human health.

He moved to Qatar and joined QEERI in March 2021, where he led the atmospheric aerosol team within the air quality research program. His research interests include air quality assessment, source attribution of air pollution, and the development of evidence-based mitigation policies. To date, Rami participated in 35 major national and international research collaborations and has 74 publications with more than 17500 citations and a current H-index of 46. He received the 2008 Swiss Academy of Sciences Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Award.

Dr. Alfarra completed a Ph.D. in atmospheric science at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in 2004. He worked as a post-doctoral scientist at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland from 2005 to 2008. From 2009 to 2021, he served as a scientist at UK’s National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and fellow at the University of Manchester, UK.
