Going Home
From the moment of your admission, your care team will keep you informed about your treatment plan and discharge arrangements. They will discuss any special needs or support you may require at home, involving both you and your care partner to ensure a smooth transition. You will not be discharged until you have confirmed your understanding of all relevant health information to support your continued recovery. A copy of your Discharge Summary will be provided prior to your departure.
If you have any concerns regarding your discharge, please speak with your nurse or doctor. Discharge must be completed by 11 AM - allow timely preparation of your room for incoming patients. For your convenience, Al Wakra Hospital offers a Discharge Lounge on the 2nd floor, where discharged patients may wait if needed.
Outstanding Charges
Any applicable charges for services provided during your stay must be settled on the day of your discharge. Payment can be made at the Cashiers’ Office located near the hospital’s main entrance, using cash or credit card. Automated teller machines are also conveniently available nearby.
Special Medical Equipment
Our Case Managers coordinate discharge planning, particularly for patients requiring medical equipment after leaving the hospital. Equipment may be loaned based on availability, subject to a nominal fee. For assistance, please ask your assigned nurse to arrange contact with a Case Manager.
Self-Discharge or Refusal of Treatment
Patients have the right to make their own healthcare decisions, including refusing treatment or choosing to leave against medical advice. Should you decide to self-discharge, you will be informed of the potential risks and consequences and asked to sign a release form, which will be included in your medical record.
Follow-up Appointments
If necessary, your nurse or Ward Clerk will schedule a follow-up appointment in the Outpatient Department. You will receive an appointment card detailing the date and time before you leave.
Discharge Medication
Your nurse will provide you with your doctor’s prescription for any medications to take home. These can be collected from the hospital Pharmacy, located near the main entrance next to the Cashiers’ Office. The Pharmacy operates from 7 AM – 3 PM.
Wheelchair Assistance and Bell Boy Service
If needed, wheelchair assistance is available to help you from your room to your vehicle. Your assigned nurse can arrange this service. The Ward Clerk can coordinate Bell Boy assistance to help transport your personal belongings to your car.
