IHI Open School orientation session
HHQI Open School team started to provide an orientation session for facilities users about open school platform to help them in completing the courses and generate certificates. This initiative will help in improving the tickets utilization and courses completion by HMC users.

Clinical Care Improvement Training Program (CCITP) Cycle 17 Graduation Ceremony
5th July 2022 was the CCITP Cycle 17 graduation with 18 teams taking part. Mr. Nasser Al-Naimi; Deputy Chief Quality Officer CPESE and Director of HHQI, thanked the participants and sponsors for their hard work, commitment and support. The Graduates presented their posters, sharing the story of their improvement journey, containing the applied key aspects of Quality Improvement methods.

HHQI Steps to FIFA world Cup Qatar 2022
HHQI’s Creative Team present with great enthusiasm the HHQI Steps to FIFA 2022. This activity was inspired in relation to the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to promote and increase physical mobility.
As a Team, our initial aim, was to reach the distance of one FIFA stadium to another with a total of 184.2 kilometers equivalent to 241,732 steps, starting August 1 to 31, 2022. Surprisingly with the team’s combined exerted efforts, we were able to reach and completed the 8 stadiums in just 3 days. We continued doing the activity individually as an extra challenge, wherein 4 staff reached more than 241,732 steps. Overall, as a team we have reached 2,742,759 total number of steps in a month.

Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC)
The Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) is developed to provide more in-depth knowledge and skills in quality improvement science methodology. This is the first of its kind intermediate level course designed to complement the Basic and Advanced Level.
This program has been launched on May 2021 with the virtual platform format in accordance with the restrictions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Then in 2022, the program has moved to In-Person Sessions which provides the participants opportunities for great interaction, tabletop exercises, coaching and facilitation from the faculty and QI experts. This activity is an Accredited Group Learning Activity Category 1 as defined by the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Healthcare Professions - Accreditation Section and is approved for a maximum of 11.5 hours.
IQIC last session was held on September 7 & 8, 2022 at QRI auditorium. This session was attended by a total of 27 people.

Person-Centered Care (PCC) Virtual Forum 2022
Hard Work to Heart Work- Joy at work at HMC
Hamad healthcare quality Institute in collaboration with Rumailah Hospital and Communicable disease centre were privileged to present the topic “ Hard Work to Heart Work- Joy at work at HMC” under the category of Sharing is caring: Growth, inspiration, innovation and beyond on Day 2- September 9th 2022. The speakers for this session were Ms. Maryanne Gillies and Dr. Raana Siddiqui from Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, Dr. Mary Titus from Rumailah Hospital and Ms. Kumari Theresa from CDC. The major focus of this session was on -What matters to you, leadership walkarounds, systems approach for making workplace joyful and psychological safety.
From classroom to community
HHQI Capacity and Capability Building Programs has generated QI champions, advisors, leaders and experts across the system which aims to embed person centered care and transformation through their improvement initiatives. There are aspects of the healthcare system which caters healthcare services to the community who has extensively been doing transformation and improvement initiatives that results to better patient experience, improved patient safety and healthcare outcomes.
A Panel discussion representing the healthcare in the community of State of Qatar shared their experiences on how the training programs translated into better healthcare outcomes of the community. they stressed that these trainings programs are indeed the fuel to ignite change and improvement in the community.
The panel included: Ms. Nadya Al-Rauili, the Executive Director for Home Healthcare and Private Nursing Services, Dr. James Laughton, the Assistant Executive Director for Quality and Patient Safety in Ambulance Services, Dr. Mohammad Al-Abiad, the Assistant Medical Director in Red Cresent Society and Dr. Hadi Abu Rasheed the Research and Development Officer in Qatar Cancer Society.
The discussion was facilitated by Dr. Khawla Ahmad and Mr. Mark Agramon from HHQI.

Huddle: HHQI Day
At Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, Sunday huddle is traditionally a safe space enabling creativity, innovativeness, and open communication to take place leading to a very fruitful discussion, sharing of plans and opportunities for further improvements for both personal and professional successes.
HHQI Day, as part of Sunday huddle, is a once-a-month celebration that became a tradition. Each one of us brings food and drinks to share together and have some games for fun.
Last September 11, 2022, we celebrated it with a team color-coded theme and fun-filled organized events giving out creative and funny awards like The Busy Bee, The Biggest Germaphobe and Dr. Doolittle Award and many more. While two special awards were given to the winner of HHQI Steps to FIFA 2022 with the highest steps of 344,832 reaching the 8 FIFA stadia and the HHQI Joy in Work Manager that work continuously to make each huddle exceptional. The leaders shared their wonderful messages that was followed by a delicious lunch. A special thanks to the kindness of our Leaders for their usual support to everyone in HHQI.

Qatar National Sepsis Symposium
World Sepsis Day is an initiative by the Global Sepsis Alliance that was established in 2012 to provide global leadership to reduce the worldwide burden of sepsis. Qatar’s National Sepsis Program is actively engaged in providing education and awareness programs for healthcare professionals and the general public to guide the national sepsis prevention efforts.
The 9th Qatar National Sepsis Symposium took place on 13 to 14 September 2022 at Hamad General Hospital and the theme for this two-day symposium was ‘Advancing the Care of Sepsis’. On behalf of HHQI, Ms. Salma Al Rumaihi, Head of Policy and Procedure Development, attended the event.

Flow Collaborative Learning Session 1
The HMC System Wide Patient Flow Collaborative Learning Session 1 took place on the 19, 20 and 21 September. Day 1 of the collaborative started with a half day 100% virtual session to allow the teams to interact together with a fun filled and stage setting ice breaker.
It was an honor and a privilege to have three of our prestigious healthcare Executive Leaders, Mr. Ali Al Janahi, Mr. Nasser Al Naimi and Professor Abdul Abou Samra to offer their encouraging and motivational leadership messages to open the first day of the in-person learning session at the Wyndham Grand Regency, Doha. On Day 2 teams shared their individual Storyboard to showcase their flow successes and achievements, whilst also highlights areas for further opportunities for improvement and their own individualized “wish list” which enables ambitious improvement ideas to be surfaced. Day 2 was highly engaging as the Medical Surgical and ED workstreams went into separate breakout sessions to allow specialised focus on current best evidence-based practice and proactive planning of the next action period.
Day 3 began with an interactive fun exercise to encourage teamwork and creativity with the spaghetti tower challenge! There was an energetic spirit of fun and competitiveness throughout the whole room. The morning continued with a thoughtful and interactive exercise on the lean 5S game before some more serious attention to learning together some high leverage change ideas, what matters to you and understanding how to create, measure and progress a data driven learning system for HMC that will track collaborative progress over time. The day ended with a powerful live patient story to ground us all in the “why” we are here – to serve and continuously improve healthcare systems to provide the “Right Care in the Right Place at the Right time”

Fundamentals of Quality Improvement Course (FQIC)
Fundamentals of Quality Improvement Course (FQIC), one of the foundational levels, aims to provide participants with the basic understanding of evidence and values-based quality improvement concepts, methods and tools that can be immediately applied in the working environment. This course enables the healthcare professionals to participate in any quality improvement initiatives contributing to testing, measuring, and reporting on changes made in their work area. This course is offered once a month in both English & Arabic languages.
26th September 2022 was the last FQIC- English version held for this year. A total of 37 Participants from different clinical background attended the said course. While the last Arabic FQIC session took place on 31st August 2022 with 20 participants.

National Value Improvement Collaborative Learning Session 4
We had a very successful National Value Improvement Collaborative (NVIC) Learning Session 4 held on 27th, 28th and 29th of September 2022 at the Wyndham Grand Regency, Doha.
The in-person sessions were attended by nearly 250 participants across HMC, PHCC and QRC. This is followed by action period 4 based on the IHI Model of the BTS Collaborative.
The 2 days session followed by a coach’s session on 3rd day encompassed various sessions by HMC and international speakers. Leadership messages were very well received and inspiring by Mr. Nasser Al Naimi, Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, Dr. Sodzi Tettey and Khadija Said Hamood Al Shukaili.

Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI) INSIGHTS
The origin of INSIGHTS is through the collaborative efforts of the HHQI team who are working tirelessly to ensure that we are on track in the realization of our mission to drive and support a person-centered learning healthcare system through improvement collaborative strategies. HHQI is geared to building capacity and capability, utilizing the science of improvement, and building efficiency and reliability across the healthcare system in the State of Qatar.
INSIGHTS is one of the platforms to share more about our programs and collaboration as we continue to advance our efforts in providing innovative improvement initiatives for Hamad Medical Corporation and the greater region.

LearnQI with HHQI
LearnQI with HHQI webinar series is developed to provide a learning on different quality improvement related topics which can enhance the knowledge skills in quality improvement science methodology.
LearnQI with HHQI webinars are monthly series with topics covering Improvement Capability; Quality Improvement Science; Patient Safety; Person Cantered Care and Triple Aim. Highlights as follows:

The last session took place on 17th October 2022 with the topic ‘Group Dynamics’ and more than 200 participants attended the session.

IHI Open School Quarterly meeting
The Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute Open School Team ensures the optimum utilization and the benefits of completing the Open School online course by HMC users. One of the strategies used by the Open School team in managing the Open School work is by conducting a quarterly meeting with all HMC 52 Open School Managers from different HMC groups/unites/facilities.
For the current year subscription, the first quarterly meeting was held in January 2022, the second was in May 2022 and the third one is scheduled for October 2022.
The aim of these quarterly meetings is:
- Provide an overview of HMC-IHI Open School Subscriptions (2017-2021)
- Explain the process of Adding Participants & New Reporting System.
- Explain the new year 2022 subscription details, users guide, and actions required.
- Provide an orientation on the IHI Open School New Learning system/Platform.

Age-Friendly Healthy Systems Collaborative – Expert Design Meeting
In preparation for the launch of the Age-Friendly Health Systems Collaborative, HMC and the Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI), in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), has conducted the Expert Design Meeting on 22nd & 23rd October 2022 at QRI Auditorium. This was attended by HMC Clinical Leads and Staff who are working on the elements and aspects of the Age Friendly Care.
The objectives of this Expert Design Meeting were to develop an aim for the spread of Age-Friendly Care at HMC and to identify and tailor the 4Ms framework, implementation guide and measurement strategy on the local context here in Qatar. A site visit was conducted at Rumailah Hospital specifically at the Acute Geriatric Unit 1 and the Elderly Urgent Care Unit.
During this 2-day meeting, we were grateful to have with us the IHI Faculty – Dr. Terry Fulmer, Dr. Nicole Brandt and Dan Ralevic here in person with Dr. Cynthia Brown, Dr. Donna Fick, Leslie Pelton and Kellyanne Pepin attending virtually. They shared their expertise and experience with regards to the AFHS and 4Ms Framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility). The HMC team lead by Dr. Hanadi Alhamad, who is the Medical Director for QRI and RH, Chairperson of Geriatrics and Long-Term Care HMC and the National Lead for Healthy Aging – NHS2, also presented the achievements and milestones that they have for geriatric services.
The Expert Design Meeting was facilitated by the in-site IHI Senior Director Ms. Maryanne Gilles and the HHQI Faculty: Dr. Rehan Negm, Dr. Khawla Ahmed, Mr. Mark Agramon and Mr. Emran Kanan.

“Basics in Quality Improvement (QI), Patient Safety (PS) and Person-centered care (PCC) for Medical Students” - Graduation Ceremony
The event started with a demonstration video of the students’ workshop followed by the leadership message of Mr. Nasser Al Naimi, Deputy Chief Quality Officer of CPESE and Director of HHQI. It was a delight and an honor to have our other healthcare executive leaders, Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, Mr. Ali Al Janahi, and Dr. Ali Latif to deliver their motivating and enlightening leadership messages.
Mr. Nasser Al-Naimi, Deputy CQO- CPESE and HHQI Director, commended the graduates on their achievement and renewed the commitment of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI) and Center for Patient Experience and Staff engagement (CPESE) to support the graduating students and ensure that the newly joining medical and clinical professionals are well equipped with QPS and PCC knowledge.
Mr. Ali Al-Janahi, Acting Managing Director-HMC, congratulated the graduating students and the future doctors on HMC. Dr. Abdulla Al-Ansari, CMO-HMC, thanked the medical students for their QI projects and asked them to explore change ideas that aim at reducing the waste and the variation in performance and to encourage their colleagues/team members to nurture a culture of QI, PS and PCC. Ms. Mariam Al-Mutawa, CNO -HMC, asked the students to Continue their projects and the work, maintain the efforts and bring results and make the healthcare system better.
This program will be conducted every year for the final year medical students at the College of Medicine at Qatar University and is the one of several millstones on the path of collaboration between HMC and Academic Institutions, which intends to widen scope to train students of nursing, pharmacy and health sciences on Quality Improvement (QI), Patient Safety (PS) and Person- Centered Care (PCC).
