Hamad Medical Corporation Internship Program


The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Internship Program is a thirteen block (one-year), hands-on training program for new medical school graduates, to provide exposure to several major medical specialties. Intended as a bridge between medical school and residency training, the program entails four mandatory rotations (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology) and two elective rotations. 

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion of Internship. 

The program has two intakes per year, February and July. The application intake will remain open year round with selected candidates assigned to begin their program according to their application submission date, as below.

Important:  Candidates selected to join the Internship Program MUST be physically present in Qatar in the month preceding the Program Start Date, to undergo the required onboarding and orientation activities (e.g. 1 to 31 January for February intake, and 1 to 30 June for the July intake). In addition, interns will not be permitted to take leave within the first three (3) months of joining the program (e.g.1 February to 30 April for the February intake, and 1 July to 30 September for the July intake). If you are unable to be physically present in Qatar during that period, your acceptance will be deferred to the next intake, subject to space being available.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible to apply for our Internship program, applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

  1. Graduated within the past five years from a medical school listed on the register of the World Directory of Medical Schools (https://www.wdoms.org/). Graduation date is calculated based on the final medical school exam dates. For those submitting applications in 2023:

    • For July 2023 entry, graduates of 2018 or more recent are eligible to apply.
    • For February 2024 entry, graduates of 2019 or more recent are eligible to apply.

    Final year medical students are eligible to apply provided they will graduate prior to the expected internship joining date.

  2. Hold Qatari citizenship or a valid Qatar residency permit (first degree family sponsorship only).
  3. Met the minimum listed score in any one of the following required clinical examinations:
