Dr. Moza Al Ishaq

Dr Moza has a PhD from Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, USA focusing on patient safety, and human errors. She is the only specialist on risk management and root cause analysis training in the State of Qatar and within the region. She has her master’s degree in health science, focusing on community health and epidemiology, from the University of Arkansas, USA. She also had her second post master’s degree in health administration from Indiana University, USA. She holds several different certificates and diplomas, such as a diploma in healthcare management and leadership, a diploma in human resources and a diploma in business enterprise.
Since finishing her doctorate in 2009, she has been involved in several training and teaching programs on patient safety, healthcare risk management and root cause analysis, understanding quality and it’s tools, the importance of innovation at work, leadership management and many more. She also worked as an investigator and trainer and has been involved in quality care, patient safety and root cause analysis training and teaching programs. She worked as senior infection control coordinator for many years and also as a chairman for root cause investigations. She was the Assistant Executive Director of Risk Management and Patient safety, then promoted to the Executive Director of Quality and Clinical Transformation. She chaired several committees as the Chairman of International Patient Safety Goals Committee, Chairman of Home Healthcare Services Infection Control, Chair of E-complaints Management and Chair of the Quality Council. She has trained, motivated and supported many staff at Hamad Medical Corporation since 2009.
She was involved in developing a strategic management plan for the Quality and Patient Safety Department. She believes in improvement and building capability and capacity to transform healthcare systems, she is also involved in healthcare transformation. Dr. Moza works closely with Sidra to improve strategic quality and patient safety. She has tremendous multiple achievements in quality improvement projects as reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections, reducing ventilator associated pneumonia and using quality tools for improving HMC healthcare systems. Dr. Moza is the first Qatari national to have developed risk management and patient safety programs and strategic plans, she is also the first to have adapted, developed and tailored the HMC Coaching Clinical Program to improve the capability and capacity of healthcare providers. She is also the first to have conducted a Risk Management Week within the region.
Dr. Moza was one of the winning PhD students selected for the Education Excellence Day for the academic outstanding achievers. She received the Platinum Medal, awarded by HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. She was also awarded by the National Dean’s List in Honoring America’s Outstanding College Students for High Standard of Academic Excellence, Community Leadership and Positive Performance, USA. Her areas of interest include research into the increasing concerns surrounding patient safety, simulation of root cause analysis, using a blame-free culture, using quality care for increasing patient safety, improving the strategy of quality and patient safety and transforming HMC leadership and the system. She is focused on system thinking to make changes and improvement; managing the reliability of the system. She has published studies and articles in many national and international journals and has been a speaker at many conferences, workshops and different activities in different countries.
